The firm is especially well-known for its India practice, and it also advises on cross-border transactions elsewhere in Asia. Shook Lin & Bok is home to four of the practitioners mentioned on the following pages, and commercial litigation and insolvency and restructuring are evidently areas of strength. The firm’s commitment to advances in technology is evidenced in its showing in the regulatory communications chapter.

Shook Lin & Bok’s commercial litigation practice received excellent reviews thanks to the esteem in which “first-class” Sarjit Singh Gill SC, head of the firm’s litigation section, is held. “A well known face on the litigation circuit”, his practice serves clients such as Unilever and Procter & Gamble in areas including corporate disputes, claims in contract and tort and commercial disputes. Singh Gill served as chair of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association insolvency committee from 1998-2005 and features prominently in the corresponding chapter. He appears alongside colleague Vinodh Coomaraswamy SC, who came highly recommended as a litigator in this sector.

The firm performed extremely well in the regulatory communications chapter. Jim Lim emerges as one of the area’s most respected practitioners. Respondents, who highlighted his strong regulatory practice – especially in the fields of IP and technology litigation – saw him as “outstanding”. He is chair of The Law Society of Singapore’s IT committee. The other half of the firm’s strong duo is the “excellent” Daniel Lim. The current vice chair of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association’s intellectual property committee received plaudits such as “outstanding” and “experienced” and his practice combines strong IP and telecoms elements.
