Alban Tay Mahtani & de Silva in Who's Who Legal: Singapore
Founding member and head of the firm’s corporate and commercial group, Susan de Silva gives the firm a presence in three chapters. She emerges from our competition research with nothing but praise. A significant amount of her practice relates to industries including shipping, gas, electricity, pharmaceutical, petrochemical and IT. A “doyenne of the Singapore bar”, her experience of franchising and merchandising commercial agreements led to her inclusion in the franchise chapter. She also appears among the most highly rated individuals in the management labour and employment section, and she has represented a number of well-known clients in this regard.
Christopher Lau SC is a consultant to the firm, and appears in the construction chapter. He has represented clients from around the world in construction disputes related to projects in Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore, and is also recognised for his expertise in commercial arbitration, an area in which he was described as “very effective”. Lau is well known for his work in maritime, construction and commercial law disputes in particular, both in Singapore and overseas.
ATMD has a pair of lawyers listed in both the patents and trademarks chapters, underlining its IP capabilities. Alban Kang and Sheena Jacob appear in both sections. Managing partner Kang is known for his patent litigation practice. He is also a “highly successful trademark litigation lawyer”. His client list ranges from IT, communications and entertainment companies to fashion brands, hotel chains and advertising agencies.
Sheena Jacob heads up the intellectual property and technology practice and is reportedly a “real pleasure to work with”. Jacob is adept at handling a broad range of patent work. She is also “very well regarded” among her peers for her trademark work, especially for her representation of software, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.
