Georgia In Brief

Georgia In Brief

Who’s Who Legal: Georgia identifies 370 of the state’s finest practitioners in 21 practice areas – overwhelmingly these are based in the state capital, Atlanta. The city and the state are internationally recognised as flourishing economic centres in the southern United States.

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is the world’s busiest passenger airport, and the state is a major hub for business both domestically and internationally. The Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce states that Atlanta ranks third in the US among cities with the most Fortune 500 company headquarters – 15 according to Fortune magazine. Twenty-seven companies headquartered in Atlanta are ranked among Fortune 1,000 companies, and more than 70 per cent of all Fortune 1,000 companies have a presence in the Atlanta area.

Companies such as Home Depot, Coca-Cola, Delta Air Lines, UPS, Southern Company and Mirant are headquartered in the state.

So, business is booming in Atlanta, and this in turn supports a strong market for legal services. The financial sector is particularly active, with SunTrust Banks headquartered in the city; the research also identified internationally recognised leaders in areas as diverse as aviation, construction, environmental law and product liability. Overall, our research reflects a competitive market, ranging from boutique and national firms through to large international players. Some firms performed so well across a range of practice areas that their achievements should be noted in detail.
