She is a chartered arbitrator. Her other appointments include being trustee for the Middle East and Indian sub-continent in the CIArb board of trustees; member of the ICSID panel of conciliators and arbitrators; vice chair of the IBA's arbitration committee; member of the council of the ICC Institute of World Business Law; former commissioner of the United Nations Compensation Commission; and correspondent of the Yearbook of Islamic and Middle Eastern Law for Lebanon's country survey. She has been a consultant for governmental entities as well as for private national and international firms. She regularly serves as counsel and sole arbitrator or party-appointed arbitrator in Arabic, French and English language arbitrations conducted ad hoc and under rules of the ICC, UNCITRAL, DIAC and other international arbitration institutions.
Nayla Comair-Obeid is specialised in international business contracts, Islamic and Middle Eastern legislation, construction contracts and telecommunications, insurance, licensing and franchising contracts.
Nayla Comair-Obeid is the author of The Law of Business Contracts in the Middle East (Kluwer Law) and of numerous publications in Arabic, French and English covering a great number of legal fields including international contracts and international arbitration. She has been a frequent speaker at legal conferences, seminars and workshops in several countries.
