Professor Bermudes has sat as co-arbitrator and chairman in several arbitration proceedings and represented clients as counsel in both domestic and international arbitrations, under the rules of the ICC, Uncitral, AAA and Brazilian institutions, as well as in arbitration related judicial proceedings before Brazilian courts. He has appeared as an expert witness before national and international arbitral tribunals and United States courts.
 His legal practice in Brazil and abroad encompasses corporate law, construction, energy law, infrastructure, public-private partnerships, insurance, reinsurance and corporate reorganisation, among others. He represents several leading corporations and domestic and transnational groups.
 He was appointed judge on the State of Rio de Janeiro Electoral Tribunal from 1986 through 1988 and was one of the five members of the Commission appointed by the Brazilian Government in 1985 to review the Brazilian Code of Civil Procedure.
