Tim has negotiated and drafted the full range of international petroleum agreements. He is recognised for his leadership in developing the model contracts used by the upstream and midstream industry.
Tim advises boards and senior executives on governance best practices and has been involved in the development and implementation of compliance programmes, corporate policies and has acted as an adviser in compliance investigations. He has also acted as counsel, arbitrator and as an expert witness for energy, investment and construction disputes.
Tim has a range of experience, including negotiating a farm-in agreement on an offshore exploration concession with a major US oil company, eventually acquiring all of their interest and negotiating a development lease with the Egyptian Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) to continue the concession rights, and coordinated and submitted both a development and environmental plan to EGPC. He has handled and resolved the settlement of major cost recovery disputes with the Yemen government; negotiated and drafted the acquisition of six production sharing agreements, resulting in new and improved fiscal and contractual terms; negotiated and drafted numerous joint ownership agreements, farm-out and participation agreements, and confidentiality and settlement agreements. Tim also has experience advising governments, corporations and non-governmental organisations on corporate social responsibility, transparency and international compliance laws and has advised the Canadian International Development Agency on governance in overseas project financing. He has also been a party-appointed arbitrator in an International Chamber of Commerce arbitration between an American service company and a Saudi company, dealing with a multimillion-dollar joint venture agreement between the parties.
Tim is past president and still an active member of the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators (AIPN). He was co-chair of the Joint Working Group of the International Bar Association Oil & Gas Committee and Environment Health & Safety Law Committee and a past vice-chair of the American Bar Association International Energy Section.
Tim has been recognised as a leading lawyer in The International Who's Who of Business Lawyers, The International Who's Who of Oil & Gas Lawyers, and The International Who's Who of Commercial Arbitrators. He was also named member of the year twice by AIPN and was the recipient of AIPN's President's and Legacy Awards.
