Biography: Patents

Hasan Irfan Khan has been practising as an intellectual property lawyer for over 15 years and is the senior partner of Irfan & Irfan. He has rights of audience before the Supreme Court of Pakistan and all the high courts of Pakistan. Hasan has vast experience of patent prosecution and litigation and works for most major pharmaceutical and chemical companies. He also has vast experience in anti-counterfeiting and enforcement litigation and has conducted various landmark intellectual property law cases before the high courts in Pakistan, which have been reported in domestic and international law reports. He was honoured as one of the 'Stars of the Future' by Managing Intellectual Property magazine in its millennium edition. He was also nominated as one of the World's Leading Trade Mark Law Practitioners in an Experts Guide published by Legal Media Group, UK, in association with Managing Intellectual Property magazine.

Hasan has drafted changes for the new patents law on behalf of Pharma Bureau (an association of international pharmaceutical companies in Pakistan) for submission to the government of Pakistan and has also served as a member of the working group on TRIPs Agreement constituted by Ministry of Commerce, government of Pakistan. He has also served as a member of government of Pakistan's committee for implementation of TRIPs Agreement requirements in Pakistan, and served as a member of the information technology law forum constituted by the Ministry of Science and Technology, government of Pakistan, to review all laws of Pakistan and make them e-commerce friendly. Hasan has also drafted the proposed data exclusivity law in Pakistan on behalf of the Pharma Bureau for submission to the government of Pakistan. He also has considerable experience and advises on competition law issues including those related to IPRs.

He is a member of many international associations such as INTA, ITMA, CIPA, APAA, AIPPI and others.
