He was educated at the University of Brussels, Belgium (Lic Jur, 1978); the Institute of European Studies, Brussels (Lic Droit Européen, 1980); Harvard Law School, US (LLM 1981).
Alex Schmitt is also a member of the following bodies: The Committee of Experts on Undertakings for Collective Investment established by Luxembourg's financial sector regulator; The Committee of Experts on Securitisation established by Luxembourg's financial sector regulator; ICSID (panel of conciliators and arbitrators of the International Centre for the settlement of Investment Disputes); and the Permanent Court of Arbitration.
He is a lecturer at both the University of Brussels Law School and at the University of Luxembourg.
Alex Schmitt's principal practice areas are financial and banking law, investment funds, private equity, securities law and regulation and mergers and acquisitions.
He speaks English, French, German and Italian.
