As Counsel in the Mexico City office, Ms Brown de Véjar has acted as counsel in international arbitrations under the leading institutional and ad hoc arbitration rules, including the rules of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the Mexican Chamber of Commerce (CANACO) and the Japan Commercial Arbitration Association (JCAA). She has also acted as Secretary to the Tribunal under the International Rules of the American Arbitration Association (ICDR).
Ms Brown de Véjar advises state and private clients in connection with international disputes across a wide range of sectors (construction, financial services, oil and gas, mining, transport and telecommunications), in both the commercial sphere and under a variety of international treaty instruments, including the Energy Charter Treaty, the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and bilateral investment treaties.
She is a member of the Australian Delegation to UNCITRAL Working Group II, recently charged with revising the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules. She is the assistant editor of World Arbitration & Mediation Review, published by the Institute for Transnational Arbitration, and a guest lecturer on international arbitration at the Tecnológico de Monterrey, Mexico City.
Her language skills extend to fluency in English, French and Spanish, and she is admitted to practice in New York and Australia. Ms Brown de Véjar received her LLM from Harvard Law School and her BA/LLB from the University of Queensland with first class honours and a University Medal for Law.
