Biography: Business Crime Defence

Jan Handzlik is an accomplished trial lawyer and nationally recognised authority on business crime and foreign bribery matters. He represents companies and individuals in investigations and prosecutions nationwide. Earlier, he served in the US Justice Department prosecuting federal fraud cases in Los Angeles.

Mr Handzlik's practice includes securities fraud, export controls, FCPA, bank and tax fraud, money laundering, environmental crimes and anti-competition matters. He has extensive experience conducting corporate internal investigations, coordinating multinational investigations and designing law compliance programmes. For three years, he was independent monitor of a multinational corporation's compliance with the FCPA. Mr Handzlik has handled nearly 100 jury trials to verdict. In 2011, he successfully defended Lindsey Manufacturing Company in a landmark FCPA prosecution in Los Angeles.

Mr Handzlik is an officer of the American Bar Association's criminal justice section and recently served on its board. He is past chair of the ABA's national white-collar crime committee and was on the ABA president's attorney-client privilege task force. Mr Handzlik also serves as vice chair of the International Bar Association's business crime committee.

In addition to this publication, Mr Handzlik has been recognised in all volumes of The Best Lawyers in America, and in Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers, Euromoney Legal Media Group's Guide to the World's Leading Litigation Lawyers, and Mondaq's Guide to the World's Leading White Collar Crime Advisors. He received the California Lawyer Magazine Attorney of the Year Award for 2011 in criminal law.
