Biography: Arbitration

Hans Bagner was a senior partner at the Swedish law firm Vinge in Stockholm and London. Since January 2012, he is senior counsel with MAQS Law Firm, a full service law firm with offices in Sweden and in the Nordic region. Hans has obtained his law degrees at Stockholm University and the University of Michigan Law School, and has also worked with Squire Sanders & Dempsey in Cleveland, Ohio.

Between 1996 and 2002 Hans was the Swedish member of the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris. He was a member of the executive committee of the Swedish Arbitration Association 2007-2011; a member of the working party that prepared the IBA Rules on the Taking of Evidence in International Arbitration in 1999 and has also assisted in the preparation of the 2010 Rules. Hans often participates as a speaker at international conferences dealing with various arbitration topics.

Hans has extensive and wide-ranging advocacy experience in both court and arbitral proceedings and regularly acts as chairman or member of international arbitral tribunals. Since the mid-1970s he has served as party counsel or arbitrator in more than 200 international commercial matters before the ICC International Court of Arbitration, the London Court of International Arbitration, AAA, SCC or ad hoc arbitrations.

Hans has frequently published articles on international arbitration topics, in the ICC Bulletin, the Journal of International Arbitration, Mealy's International Arbitration Report and the Swedish International Arbitration Review (SIAR). Recent publications: the SCC chapter in Arbitration World, third edition, 2010; the chapter on Sweden in International Arbitration Review, 2011; Arbitrator's Impartiality, SIAR, autumn 2011; and Arbitrator's Independence and Impartiality, JFT 4-5/2011 (Finland).
