Biography: Banking

As a partner with Macleod Dixon LLP, practising extensively in the area of commercial transactions, Rick focuses on large-scale projects and sophisticated financings in the energy sector including oil sands projects, pipeline projects, LNG projects, wind farm projects and acquisitions. His clients include major Canadian banks and project sponsors and he has strong relationships with key project lending specialists within the major Canadian banks.

Rick has also developed expertise in joint venture transactions in the oil and gas industry and often advises on technical matters such as voting, default and remedy provisions in joint venture agreements. He generally acts as the lead counsel on all of the transactions in which he is involved, and is directly involved in structuring matters, due diligence investigations, negotiation of the key business terms and drafting from the term sheet stage through to final documentation.

In addition, Rick has been extensively involved in negotiating inter-creditor agreements and third-party consents with third-party project participants in various project financings. Whether acting for borrowers, lenders or sponsors, Rick's strength lies in combining a high degree of technical expertise with a commercial approach that facilitates the successful completion of complex projects and related financings.

Rick has been recognised as a "Best Lawyer in Canada" and "Leading Practitioner" in banking and project finance law. Rick has also been recognised in The International Who's Who of Banking Lawyers.
