Biography: Oil and Gas

Don Davies is a partner in the firm's Calgary office. He practises energy law, with a focus on the regulatory and litigation fields. He is chair of the firm's regulatory practice group. Don has represented oil and gas producers, pipeline companies, and industry organisations in proceedings before the National Energy Board for more than 25 years. He has acted for both proponents and intervenors in respect of many applications for the approval of pipeline facilities and for the determination of pipeline tolls and tariffs. Don's cases typically involve complex environmental, aboriginal, constitutional, jurisdictional, economic and financial issues.

Don also has extensive experience before the Alberta energy regulators, including the Energy Resources Conservation Board and the Alberta Utilities Commission. He has acted for proponents of various energy projects, including oil sands developments, pipelines, power plants and well and field facilities. He also represents clients in regulatory proceedings relating to electrical power facilities and utility rates and services.

Don is recognised as a leading Canadian regulatory lawyer. The Chambers Global Guide to the World's Leading Lawyers for Business has given Don top ranking in the area of oil and gas (regulatory) law and The International Who's Who of Oil & Gas Lawyers has recognised him as one of the world's leading oil and gas lawyers.
