Biography: Mining

Crae Garrett is a partner in the Calgary office and has many years experience as a lawyer and investment banker. He primarily practices in the area of business law, focusing on energy and resources and mining. Crae has a transaction-focused practice, with particular experience in emerging markets in Africa and the CIS, and involving all aspects of international resource transactions. These include negotiation issues, legal due diligence, local and multi-jurisdictional structuring advice, central bank, competition, mining, securities and other statutory compliance issues, drafting of necessary contract and structure documentation, court filings and other statutory returns.

Crae gained a LLB and a B Bus Sc from the University of Cape Town in 1989 and 1987 respectively. He was called to the Bar in Zimbabwe in 1994, to the Bar in Alberta in 2005 and qualified to practise law in England and Wales in 2009.

Crae is a member of the Law Society of Alberta, an associate member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, and a member of both the International Bar Association and the Canadian Bar Association. He has authored several works in the energy and natural resource areas and on business topics in general. Moreover, Crae is regularly invited by academic institutions to deliver lectures and has spoken at and moderated a number of international conferences.
