Biography: Mining

Glenn is the managing partner in the Bogotá and Rio offices. In the former Soviet Union and Latin America since 1992, Glenn has primarily represented mining and energy clients as well as service companies and lenders/investors in those industries.

From 1992 to 1997, he was resident in Moscow as head of the Russian practice (1992-95) and the CIS practice generally (1995-97). He moved to Caracas, Venezuela, to found the firm's office there in 1997, and then helped to cofound the Rio de Janeiro office in 2001, as Brazil's first registered foreign lawyer. He also helped cofound Macleod Dixon's practice in Kazakhstan (1995) and is now leading the firm's new office in Bogotá, Colombia where he advises across broad spectrum legal and operational issues affecting mining investments. A recent example is the assistance he provided to a Brazilian multi-national company to structure a number of base metal projects for the company to operate in foreign jurisdictions. Glenn's mining practice also encompasses mergers and acquisitions of mining properties often involving complex cross border and multijurisdictional legal considerations.

Glenn was admitted as an English solicitor in April 2005. He obtained his LLB from the University of Alberta, Canada in 1979, and was called to the Bar in Alberta in 1980. He is also licensed to practise international and Canadian law in Miranda state (Venezuela, 2001) and in Rio de Janeiro state (Brazil, 2001).

He speaks English, German, Russian and Spanish and has a good knowledge of French and Portuguese. He is a member of the Calgary and Canada Bar Associations, the International Bar Association and the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators.

Publication and presentation credits include: speaker, 'O Papel da Lei na Exploração e Produção de Minas: a Perspectiva Jurídica Canadense' at the Brazilian Mining Institute's 10th mining expo in Belo Horizonte, Brazil; speaker, 'Oil and Gas in the Former Soviet Union: Prospects and Opportunities', a conference co-sponsored by Insight Information Inc and the Canada-USSR Business Council; coauthor, 'Should I Shake Her Hand?'
