Biography: Mining

For over 25 years, Marvin has worked with both international and domestic clients on all aspects of resource projects - from acquisition through to debt and equity financings and project development and operations. His practice regularly involves projects throughout Africa, the former Soviet Union and the Americas.

Marvin also provides corporations with extensive expertise related to corporate and business matters. He regularly advises public and private corporations in structuring and implementing acquisitions, joint ventures, divestitures, mergers, corporate reorganisations, royalty arrangements, offtake and marketing contracts. Marvin regularly assists companies in negotiating with emerging markets' governments and regulatory authorities, as well as undertaking targeted due diligence assignments, including identifying and assessing risks associated with particular countries and regions.

Marvin has broad experience as a corporate finance lawyer, acting for both issuers and investment dealers in respect of Canadian and cross-border public offerings, private placements and listings.

In his dealings with international clients, Marvin works closely with the firm's overseas' offices, providing seamless support to them with an in-depth local understanding. Located in Venezuela, Russia, Kazakhstan, Colombia and Brazil, these offices are able to serve a broad range of needs, particularly those related to the energy and resource industries. From their locations, members of these offices provide support to clients throughout the surrounding regions.

Marvin is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, Law Society of Upper Canada, Prospectors and Developers Association and the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation. Marvin received an LLB from Osgoode Hall Law School (Toronto) in 1976 and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1978.
