Biography: Mining

Yerzhan Kumarov is the managing partner in Kazakhstan. For the past 15 years, Yerzhan has worked for major international law firms and has acquired extensive experience in advising and representing clients on a variety of complex legal and business issues in Kazakhstan. He has a wealth of experience in structuring cross-border investment and financial transactions in a variety of industries and, in particular, the natural resource sector. He has represented numerous domestic and international strategic investors in the exploration, development and production of minerals. Mining and oil and gas companies regularly retain Yerzhan as legal counsel for their acquisitions, as well as in the sale of equity or assets. He is increasingly involved in advising mining companies on listings with stock exchanges around the world. Yerzhan's natural resource practice has recently expanded to include the precious metals and minerals sector where he has a specialised knowledge of industry specific licensing and regulatory norms.

Mr Kumarov is admitted to practise law in New York and Kazakhstan. He is a member of the New York Bar Association.

Yerzhan Kumarov has been a partner with Macleod Dixon's Kazakhstan and Central Asia practice since 2007. For the past 14 years, Yerzhan has worked for major international law firms and has acquired extensive experience in advising and representing clients in structuring cross-border investment and financial transactions in sectors such as natural resources, power generation and construction. Yerzhan provides legal assistance to clients in the spheres of banking, project financing of deposits, debt financings, securitisation and general corporate matters. He has an active practice assisting in large scale acquisitions, as well as in the sale of equity or assets. He is often retained for his specialist regulatory advice in pre-export trade and project financing, secured financings by multilateral organizations, syndicated loans, capital markets and debt offerings and in the representation of western and local banks in matters relating to banking regulations.
