Major engagements in recent years include in the cartel field, the freight forwarder cartel, the air cargo cartel, the ESBR/BR cartel; in the merger control field, a merger in the printing machine industry, the Oracle/Sun merger, the Google/DoubleClick merger and related cases; and in the state aid field, regional rail passenger-transportation cases and the application of the market economy investor principle for international airports and carriers. He has also worked on various national cases, for example, the German cement cartel as well as several other German cartel cases including private litigation cases; abuse of buyer power cases; the GN Resound/Phonak merger; Truvo Nederland/European Directories, the sector inquiry into the German gasoline markets and street furniture; and cases in the waste industry. He has also acted as a testifying expert in front of courts. In addition, he has analysed various regulated industries such as the telecommunications, railway, energy and pharmaceutical industries.
While working at the European Commission, he was one of the main contributors to the ongoing reform in the field of EC state aid control, including contributions to the State Aid Action Plan and the R&D&I Guidelines. He worked during that time, inter alia, on the Alstom R&R case, German Landesbanken cases, the Microsoft/ContentGuard merger, the article 102 case against AstraZeneca and the copper tubes cartel cases.
Dr Friederiszick is also a member of the faculty of ESMT, the European School of Management and Technology. He has published widely and is a regular speaker at international antitrust conferences. Recent publications include the OECD roundtable report on economic methods for damage calculations and a study on internet neutrality.
