Joachim received his German law degree (First State Exam) in 1998 and holds LLM degrees from Boston University and King's College London, as well as a degree in public international law from the University of Aix-Marseille, France. He is a member of the New York Bar and of the Paris Bar.
Joachim has acted as counsel, co-counsel, secretary to arbitral tribunals and as arbitrator in more than 35 ad hoc (including UNCITRAL), ICC, ICSID, LCIA and Swiss Rules proceedings, and in particular in cases relating to construction and infrastructure projects, license agreements, broadcast agreements, agency and joint venture agreements, distribution, sale and purchase contracts, and service contracts. His industry experience includes steel, mining, LNG projects, oil and gas, aviation, television broadcasting, utilities operation and maintenance services.
He also has substantial expertise in investment treaty arbitration and the protection of foreign investments, having acted as counsel and as secretary to arbitral tribunals in six ICSID arbitrations and actions for the annulment of ICSID awards.
Joachim is co-chair of 'ASA Below 40', the Swiss Arbitration Association's group of young arbitration practitioners.
A German national, he is fluent in German, English, and French.
