Biography: Insurance & Reinsurance

John Nicholl, BCL, LLB (McGill) is the founding partner of a leading insurance Canadian defence boutique that merged with Clyde & Co in 2011. Now based primarily in Toronto, he divides his practice between Clyde & Co's Montreal and Toronto offices. He has extensive trial and appellate experience litigating insurance coverage and liability defence cases in both English and French.

Mr Nicholl was formerly a lecturer at the McGill University Faculty of Law, and is currently a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America. He has featured in The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory 2011 as a leading practitioner in the fields of professional liability; litigation – product liability; litigation – directors' and officers' liability; litigation – commercial insurance; and personal injury. He is listed in The International Who's Who of Business Lawyers, 2010 edition, and Who's Who Legal: Canada 2011, in the field of insurance and reinsurance, as well as in Best Lawyers in Canada 2012, sixth edition, in the fields of class action litigation, directors' and officers' liability, insurance law and legal malpractice law. He holds an AV Preeminent peer review rating of 5/5 in Martindale-Hubbell for insurance, professional liability and litigation.
