Mr Redmond obtained his BA and LLB degrees from the University of Alberta, where he was gold medallist in his law class and a Rhodes Scholar. He received a BCL degree, first class, from the University of Oxford.
Mr Redmond carries on practice as an arbitrator, mediator, and counsel in arbitrations, mediations and arbitration litigation. For many years, Mr Redmond served as senior litigation counsel with Fraser Milner Casgrain in a wide range of commercial matters, including corporate, securities, banking, accounting, professional responsibility, insolvency, construction, competition, constitutional, oil and gas, insurance, technology licensing and real and intellectual property, and also as an arbitrator and mediator in domestic and international disputes. He has appeared regularly in the Alberta courts and in the Supreme Court of Canada. In 2003 he set up his own office, in order to continue the development of his arbitration and mediation practice.
Mr Redmond has served as sole arbitrator, chairman, party nominee and counsel in numerous domestic and international arbitrations on matters including contracts, technology and intellectual property, licensing, oil and gas, financing, Public-Private Partnerships, accounting and auditing, franchising and domain name disputes. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, a member of the IBA arbitration committee, the LCIA, the advisory board of the Institute for Transnational Arbitration, the Canadian arbitration committee of the ICC, and the Western Canada Arbitrators Round Table, and is on the rosters of arbitrators of the ICDR, the AAA and the BC International Commercial Arbitration Centre including its domain name dispute resolution panel. He is listed in the international arbitration category in the Best Lawyers in Canada, Lexpert, Guide to the World's Leading Arbitration Experts, and Who's Who Legal. Mr Redmond also acts as a mediator and holds a Certificate in Negotiation and Mediation from the University of Windsor.
