Mr Martinez-Fraga is a noted scholar, author and lecturer in the fields of public and private international law. He has been published in 14 countries and four languages. He has written more than 50 peer-reviewed articles, four books on private and public procedural international law, and is the co-editor and a contributing author of a fifth book on international arbitration. His recent book, The American Influence on International Commercial Arbitration, published by the Cambridge University Press, forms part of the permanent collection of over 100 leading law school and university libraries in the United States and throughout the world. His work International Commercial Arbitration: United States Doctrinal Developments and American Style Discovery was translated into Chinese by the Center for International Law Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in Beijing.
Mr Martinez-Fraga has lectured at more than 20 law schools throughout Europe, Latin America, Asia and the United States. He is an adjunct professor at the University of Miami School of Law, a full visiting professor of international litigation and arbitration of the Global Law Programme of the University of Navarra School of Law in Pamplona, Spain, and an honorary professor of law of the Universidad de San Ignacio de Loyola in Lima, Peru.
Mr Martinez-Fraga has been honoured for his practice. In 2001, he received the Lawyer of the Americas Award; in 2005, he received the Most Effective Lawyer Award (International Law); in 2006, he was named a finalist for the same honour. Mr Martinez-Fraga was also named a finalist for that honour in 2010 in the pro bono category. He has been listed among the Best Lawyers in America every year since 2005. Mr Martinez-Fraga serves on the editorial boards of the Anuario Español de Derecho Internacional Privado, the Istanbul Kultur University School of Law's Law Review, the Justice Academy of Turkey's Law & Justice Review, and NALSAR University of Law's ADR Law Review (Hyderabad, India). He is listed as an arbitrator for the Justice Academy of Turkey, and the Cámara de Comercio Americana del Perú (AmCham Perú). He has been a member of the American Law Institute (ALI) since 1999.
Mr Martinez-Fraga received his JD from Columbia University in 1987 where he was designated a Harlan Fiske Stone scholar. He received his BA from St John's College, Annapolis (summa cum laude). He also holds Licenciatura (JD equivalent), Magister (LLM equivalent), and Diploma de Estudios Avanzados degrees in private and public international law from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. He is admitted to practice in Florida, the District of Columbia, and the Kingdom of Spain.
