Mr Kim served as legal adviser to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of Korea from 1991 to 1997, and has participated in many governmental negotiations on international trade matters as a legal adviser and member of Korean government delegations. He has also served as a commissioner of the customs tribunal for the Korean Customs Service since 1997.
Mr Kim was awarded the National Service Medal by the government of the Republic of Korea for his service in providing legal advice and consulting to the government regarding international trade negotiations and disputes on 12 October 2007. The government acknowledged Mr Kim's service and assistance in helping the country manage the industrial and economic challenges of international trade negotiations by providing effective legal counsel and representing the government in various WTO dispute resolution matters.
From 1999 to 2000, Mr Kim taught international trade law as an adjunct professor at the graduate school of international information at Dong-Kuk University. Furthermore, he has written extensively on topics related to securities and M&A law, international trade law and corporate law. He also serves as the president of the Korea Trade Remedy Forum, a non-profit organisation for legal scholars and practitioners specialising in international trade law in Korea.
