Mr Lum is a leading lawyer in the development of motor vehicle lease securitisations and has worked on a number of groundbreaking transactions, including the first automobile lease-secured note issuance, the first mortgage-backed medium-term note programme, the first automobile lease securitisation involving a motor vehicle titling trust, the first US debt offering by a Japanese motor vehicle finance subsidiary and the first stranded utility cost securitisation. He has been a pioneer in applying structured finance technology in mergers and acquisitions and hedge fund and private equity transactions.
Mr Lum represents issuers, underwriters, acquirers, and target companies. He has been involved in a broad range of financial transactions, including asset-backed financings of all types, structured financings in the acquisition context, synthetic and derivative securitisations, intellectual property financings, stranded utility cost financings, residential mortgage-backed financings, offerings of debt and equity securities, corporate spin-offs, rights offerings, commercial paper and medium-term note programmes, and bank credit agreements and bridge loans. He is counsel for a number of large United States, European and Japanese corporate issuers and has represented every major United States investment banking firm in at least some aspect of its securitisation or structured finance business. He also represents clients in a variety of work-outs and restructurings involving structured transactions and domestic and international structured financings.
Mr Lum received his JD from Columbia University School of Law in 1982 and his BA from Columbia University in 1979.
