Biography: Real Estate

Attie Pretorius is a director and joint national head of our real estate practice. Attie joined Hofmeyr (now Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr), as a director in 1984.

Attie focuses on all aspects of property law. He advised the Mia Group of Companies in the development of Waterfall City. This development, at a worth of R11 billion, is ranked as the largest property development in South African history. Other major clients include Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa (IDC), Sanlam Properties, Sasol Group of Companies, Development Bank of SA, Media 24, Medi Clinic Properties, Landbank, Pareto, Sun International, Vodacom, Absa Devco, Eskom, Motor Industry Pension Fund, Liberty Group Properties, API Property Group, Vukile Property Fund and all major South African banks.

Attie received his BCom LLB at the University of the Free State and he was admitted to practice in 1980 as an attorney and conveyancer and as a notary in 1982. He is a member of the Law Society of the Northern Provinces.

PLC Which Lawyer endorsed Attie as a leading individual in corporate real estate from 2007 to 2010. He authored the South African chapter for the International Comparative Legal Guide to Real Estate Law, 2006 and 2007 (2nd edition) which was published by Global Legal Group in London.
