Susan earned an honours BA in Soviet and East European relations from the University of Toronto in 1981, and a law degree from Queen's University in 1984. She specialises in all areas of trademark law, including trademark prosecution, opposition and cancellation proceedings, licensing, opinion work and commercial transactions involving intellectual property assets. She also oversees the securing and protection of foreign trademark portfolios in various jurisdictions worldwide, with particular expertise in the Russian Federation and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
Susan has been listed as a leader in her field in various IP publications, and is a frequent author and lecturer on issues involving trademark law and practice in Canada. She has served on numerous committees involved in trademark law, and was most recently appointed to the International Trademark Association (INTA) features bulletin publication committee as an author. Other professional memberships include the Canadian Bar Association (CBA), the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC, Fellow), the Pharmaceutical Trade Marks Group (PTMG), the Toronto Intellectual Property Group (TIPG) and the Canadian IT Law Association (IT.Can).
