Biography: Management Labour and Employment

Nick Robb is a partner and head of the employment and employee benefits practice at Webber Wentzel. His clients consist primarily of large corporates including major South African banks, as well as parastatals.

Nick's areas of expertise incorporate all aspects of employment and labour law. He practices in the Labour Court, High Court and employment tribunals, and latterly in the Competition Commission and Tribunal. He has extensive experience in corporate governance issues including negotiations and disputes surrounding the removal and dismissal of executive directors, the drafting and interpretation of executive contracts, as well as all other employment-related agreements, policies and procedures. He frequently provides strategic advice on the impact on employment of mergers and acquisitions of businesses and the outsourcing of services, including competition-related aspects. His litigation practice incorporates all aspects of employment disputes including collective disputes and strikes, discrimination, whistle-blowing and restraints of trade. He conducts forensic enquiries and disciplinary enquiries involving delinquent directors and managers.

He is the president of the Gauteng chapter of the South African Society for Labour Law and sits on its national board.

Nick's recent work includes advising on employment and competition aspects of the Wal-Mart/Massmart transaction and Momentum/Metropolitan merger; advising on the collective bargaining defence to alleged contraventions under the Competition Act; advising on employment implications of the GlaxoSmithKline/Aspen deal and the HSBC/Nedbank transaction; and litigation and disciplinary enquiries on behalf of a number of corporates relating to the removal and discharge of executive directors including CEO's and CFO's.
