Biography: Management Labour and Employment

Jan Hofkens is partner in the employment, pensions and benefits department at Belgian independent law firm Lydian, heading a team of 15 employment lawyers. He represents both companies and executives in the full range of employment counselling and transactions, with a special focus on company restructurings (mass lay-offs including collective bargaining), negotiation of severance packages for senior executives and drafting of HR policies. He was involved in advising on large-scale restructurings for major companies operating throughout Europe.

Prior to joining Lydian in 2002, he was partner and co-head of the employment practice at Stibbe. He is a regular speaker at seminars, member of the editorial board of the European Employment Law Cases (EELC) and co-author of Discrimination in Employment Relations (Kluwer, 2004). He is also often involved in cases of employee fraud, privacy issues related to internal investigations and dismissal for cause. For this reason, he is also a registered forensic auditor at the Belgian Institute for Forensic Auditors (IFA), and he lectures on the Master's course in Forensic Auditing at the University Management School of Antwerp (UAMS).
