Biography: Project Finance

Karan Singh is a partner in the Mumbai office of Trilegal and heads the banking and finance practice. He has worked with several banks and institutions in the context of both offshore and domestic financings and has extensive experience on a broad range of matters including project and syndicated finance, structured finance products, regulatory matters and leveraged buy-outs. Karan's recent achievements include advising Standard Chartered Bank in a US$7.5 billion acquisition facility and US$2 billion bridge facility in connection with Bharti Airtel's acquisition of Zain's African telecom business and Credit Suisse and other counter-guarantors on the provision of a £680 million facility to Land Rover.

Karan's experience in project finance cuts across various sectors including roads, power and ports. His client profile includes multilateral agencies, commercial lenders, developers, sponsors as well as construction companies. Karan has been involved with many of the key project financings that have concluded in the past year and has provided innovative structures and solutions to achieve successful closure.

Karan has been named one of the leading lawyers in India for banking and finance in the Guide to Asia Pacific's Leading Lawyers, 2010 and has also been ranked in Band 1 for banking and finance by Chambers and Partners, 2011.
