Steven's clients have ranged from individual entrepreneurs and small businesses to household name Fortune 500 corporations, including many major companies in the entertainment and media, e-business, alcoholic beverage, digital images, technology, fashion, and consumer products industries, as well as entertainment celebrities and personalities. Representative current clients include FremantleMedia (American Idol) and its affiliates, E & J Gallo Winery, Citigroup, George Foreman, Masterfile Corp, IXL Learning Systems and Language Line Services.
One of a small number of lawyers worldwide consistently elected by peers to both The International Who's Who of E-Commerce Lawyers and The International Who's Who of Trademark Lawyers, Steven also has been elected annually by peers and in-house counsel to many other Who's Who publications, Best Lawyers in America, California Super Lawyers, Guide to the World's Leading Trade Mark Law Practitioners and as a Business Journal "Best of the Bar." Steven also has been named one of the top trademark practitioners in the world by Managing Intellectual Property magazine.
Steven has served as editor-in-chief of the International Trademark Association's The Trademark Reporter and as editor of the Journal of the Copyright Society of the USA. He also has been on the advisory boards of a number of legal and business publications. A former board member of the International Trademark Association, Steven also has been a mediator and arbitrator with the INTA/CPR Institute's ADR neutrals programme, and an ICANN UDRP arbitrator. Among his accomplishments, Steven was one of the co-authors of the 1990 Architectural Works Amendment of the Copyright Act, representing the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation.
A frequent national speaker and lecturer on topics related to his practice, Steven also publishes regularly in business and legal publications, co-authored the Handbook of Trademark Law for a number of years, and is often quoted in national and regional news and business publications, including CNN, CNET and the Financial Times. For many years he was national chair and co-chair of the Practicing Law Institute's annual Advanced Licensing Seminar.
Steven is a graduate of St John's University School of Law in New York, where he graduated cum laude and served as articles editor of the Law Review. Steven taught trademark, unfair competition and copyright law as an adjunct professor at Brooklyn Law School, and is currently a guest lecturer in the University of Southern California School of Law.
