Biography: Trademarks

Brian W Gray is a partner in the Toronto office of Norton Rose OR LLP (formerly Ogilvy Renault LLP).

Mr Gray's practice focuses on counselling and contentious matters in the patent, copyright, entertainment, trademark and advertising areas. He advises clients with respect to their patent and trademark portfolios and on intellectual property-related transactions and disputes.

In addition to appearing in this publication, Mr Gray also appears as highly recommended in Chambers Law Directory and The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory (a guide to the leading law firms and practitioners in Canada). He is also listed in Legal Media Group's Guide to the Leading Trade-Mark Practitioners and appears in Global Counsel 3000 and Managing Intellectual Property as one of Canada's leading patent and trademark lawyers.

A former chair of the International Bar Association's Intellectual Property Committee, Mr Gray has appeared before the Federal and Ontario courts on patent, trademark and copyright matters. He also serves on the board of directors of a technology network of Canada's major research universities and has served on a federal government Ministerial Science Advisory Committee for a decade. Mr Gray is on the editorial board of the World Intellectual Property Report and World E-Commerce Report. He has also served on the editorial board of the Trade-Mark Reporter.

Mr Gray received his LLB from the University of Toronto and his MA (Government) and BA (Chemistry and History), both from Cornell University. He was called to the Ontario bar and qualified as a trademark agent in 1979. Mr Gray became a US and Canadian patent agent in 1980.
