Rémi advises insurance market players, financial institutions and other major corporations (insured and insurers). He focuses on commercial litigation, insurance, banking and financial law. Rémi has developed his expertise in financial lines (D&O, EPL, IPO, financial institutions, IPO and crime fraud) including policy wording, liability cases (E&O, general liability etc), life insurance, and reinsurance issues.
Representative cases include, acting as monitoring or coverage counsel for the leader of the D&O French market in respect of directors' liability cases brought before French, US and UK Courts; acting as counsel for UK carriers in French EPL and D&O cases involving French subsidiaries of UK parent companies.
Rémi has also been involved in coverage issues arising from international insurance programmes made of French and foreign insurance policies. He acted for French carriers in relation to a layered excess insurance programme concerning a train crash in the US; and the implementation of a French master policy with US local policies in losses arising from the sale of beauty products in North America and defective equipments in onshore petroleum wells. Rémi has also gained extensive experience in assisting EU insurers willing to market insurance products tailored to the French market.
Rémi regularly acts as defence counsel before French courts in banking litigation cases such as liability cases arising from the sale of various financial instruments. In these cases, he represents French private banking subsidiaries of a major British banking corporation.
Rémi is the contributor for France of the Insurance Institute of London's book Directors and Officers Liability Insurance (2010). He has also participated as speaker in various conferences such as 'Regulatory Changes in France Affecting Financial Institutions', second C5 European Forum, Munich, May 2010; 'The Latest Legal and Regulatory Issues Affecting the Liability of Directors and Officers in France', fourth C5 European Forum, Cologne, October 2009; 'Difficulties Arising from the Implementation of International Liability Insurance Programmes', Chartis Paris event, 19 September 2007.
Rémi holds masters degrees from the University of Paris I Sorbonne in international private law and international trade law (1990) and in European law (1991). He is a member of the French Association of Risk Managers (Amrae), the French Association of Insurance and Reinsurance Lawyers (AJAR) and the French Association of Banking Lawyers (ANJB).
