Biography: Insurance & Reinsurance

Stefan Knecht regularly advises Swiss and foreign clients in the insurance and reinsurance industry on a wide range of topics of regulatory and non-regulatory, domestic and international, contractual, and fiscal nature. He acts as counsel for Swiss and non-Swiss insurers and frequently represents them in complex coverage disputes. He has extensive experience in litigation.

Stefan Knecht served as Lloyd's general representative for Switzerland from 1998 to 2008, and he continues to represent and advise the Corporation of Lloyd's as well as Lloyd's market participants (underwriters, syndicates, managing agents and brokers) on a variety of insurance matters. He is a member of the Swiss Society for Tort and Insurance Law and of the Swiss Society for International Law.

Stefan Knecht was born in Zurich in 1949 and graduated from Zurich University (lic iur in 1974; PhD in 1980) and from the University of Miami School of Law (LLM in 1983). In 1977 he was admitted to the Bar. From 1983 to 1996 he was a lecturer at Zurich University. Having been a partner with Homberger & Partner since 1991, he joined Badertscher Attorneys at Law in 2005. He is fluent in German, English and French.
