He has experience before the Federal Court of Canada and the Supreme Court of Canada, and before the Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta and the Alberta Court of Appeal. He has also appeared as counsel in the Saskatchewan Court of Queen's Bench, the Manitoba Court of Queen's Bench and the Manitoba Court of Appeal. He is active in both international and domestic arbitrations, both as counsel and as an arbitrator.
Mr Vallis has been selected by peers for inclusion in numerous editions of The Best Lawyers in Canada. He is listed in Martindale-Hubbell and is recognised in The Lexpert/American Lawyer Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada, The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory and PLC Which Lawyer?. He is a Fellow of the Canadian College of Construction Lawyers and of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He is a member of the Western Canada Arbitrators Round Table and of the advisory board of the Institute of Transnational Arbitration. Mr Vallis has taught advocacy programmes at the University of Calgary Law School. He has published numerous articles on construction law, and has spoken frequently at conferences across North America and in the United Kingdom.
Mr Vallis graduated from the University of Toronto Law School in 1981, and was admitted to the Alberta Bar in 1982. He was named Queen's Counsel in 2004.
