Biography: Corporate Governance

Humberto Morales leads the Corporate Governance Practice Group of Sanchez Devanny and is a member of the Corporate and Labour Practice Groups. His practice consists in the design and implementation of corporate governance infrastructure strategies and programmes including Government Centers of Excellence (COE's) focusing on regulatory, advocacy and government procurement initiatives. He also supports clients in the design and implementation of corporate and labour strategies for operations in the industrial, finance and communication sectors. Mr Morales is also active in the execution of corporate and business transactions and M&A.

Pior to joining Sanchez Devanny he was General Counsel for the General Electric Company in Mexico Central America and the Caribbean. In this position, he led a legal team of 55 counsels in the finance, industrial, communication and entertainment sectors. Mr Morales was also leading counsel in the design and implementation of corporate, tax and labour legal strategies for all businesses in the region, and lead negotiator in acquisitions and joint ventures. He had an extensive participation at the company's compliance initiatives in the region serving as Lead Ombudsman designing and implementing the Latin American Government COE. In 2002 he became the first Latin American recipient of the prestigious GE Legal Merit Award.

His experience extends to the public sector, where he served as General Counsel for the Urban Development and Housing Committee at the Mexican Senate and as Legal Advisor to the following committees: Federal Covenant Issues, Communication and Transportation, Social Development, Ecology and Environment, Constitutional Issues, Foreign Affairs, Transportation and Road Services Infrastructure.

Mr Morales is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the American Chamber of Commerce in Monterrey, Mexico and is currently a member of the American Bar Association and the National in-House Counsel Association (ANADE).

He holds a law degree for the University of Monterrey (1992), and a Masters of Laws degree (LLM) From the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign (1995). He is admitted to practise in Mexico.

He is fluent in Spanish and English.
