Biography: Competition

Fiona heads the competition law and regulatory practice at Allens. Fiona advises clients in complex merger clearances, cartel investigations and contested competition matters in Australia and South-East Asia.

Fiona provides advice to clients in a range of industries including aviation, financial services, manufacturing, media, retail, resources, telecommunications and pharmaceutical industries.

In the last few years Fiona has been involved in the largest and most complex merger clearances in the telecommunications, financial services and retail sectors in Australia. Fiona also enjoys a substantial contentious practice having acted in high-profile competition cases including proceedings that established the application of legal professional privilege to investigations brought by the competition regulator, proceedings dealing with collusive conduct by major retail chains and proceedings in the land and submarine cable cartel being prosecuted in various jurisdictions. Fiona has also conducted proceedings in the Australian Competition Tribunal on appeals from decisions of the regulator regarding, among other things, the authorisation of industry-wide conduct and access pricing.

Fiona's clients include Vodafone Hutchison Australia, Pfizer, Qantas, BAE, James Hardie, Electrolux, Johnson & Johnson and Sony.

Fiona is listed as a leading individual in Chambers Global 2011 and Chambers Asia Pacific 2011. Fiona is a member of the Law Council of Australia and the American Bar Association and is a section editor of the Australian Journal of Competition and Consumer Law. She has a Masters of Laws from Sydney University.
