With a focus on multi-jurisdictional matters, Elizabeth represented the five largest Japanese Steel Makers, coordinating with global antitrust counsel to oppose the US$120 billion BHP Billiton-Rio Tinto joint venture. This won the 2011 GCR M&A Deal of the Year - Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Africa. Other recent matters include negotiating a favourable resolution in the marine hose cartel matter (advising Dunlop Oil & Marine), and representing the Australian Bankers' Association in relation to the recent price signalling laws. She is currently representing Synthes in Australia in its global merger with Johnson & Johnson and representing Malaysia Airlines in the ACCC's prosecution of alleged air cargo price fixing.
Prior to joining Gilbert + Tobin, Elizabeth was in the antitrust group of Weil, Gotshal and Manges LLP in New York for seven years.
Elizabeth is the vice chair of the international antitrust committee of the American Bar Association's (ABA) section of international law and is actively involved in many of the committee's activities, including speaking and writing on antitrust issues, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region. Elizabeth obtained an LLM from New York University, where she won the antitrust prize. She also holds a BA (German and Government), and an LLB (Honours) from the University of Sydney. Elizabeth is admitted to the Bar of New York, and also as a solicitor in the Supreme Court of New South Wales and the High Court of Australia.
