Over recent years, he has been advising on a large number of high-profile transactions. His work has included acting for: One Equity Partners on its takeovers for SMARTRAC and Constantia Packaging; KKR in relation to its investment in BMG Rights Management (joint venture with Bertelsmann); SoFFin (the German bank bailout fund) on stabilisation measures for various German banks (including the work on the stabilisation and takeover for Hypo Real Estate); Goldman Sachs Capital Partners and PAI partners on the acquisition of Xella-Group from Haniel; ING Direct on its takeover offer for Interhyp; AWD regarding its takeover offer from Swiss Life; Hanson in relation to the public takeover offer from HeidelbergCement; Permira on its public takeovers of Valentino and Hugo Boss; Morgan Stanley in the context of the competing bid by BC Partners for Techem; KKR and Permira on their takeover of ProSiebenSat.1; UniCredito Italiano on its business combination with HypoVereinsbank and various subsequent integration and reorganisation projects. A number of these transactions have won awards.
Arend studied law and economics at the University of Hamburg from where he also holds a doctor of laws (Dr iur). From 2000 to 2001 he worked with the investment banking division of Morgan Stanley in London.
Arend is author of several publications on corporate and takeover law issues. Arend is ranked in various directories where he is praised for his client service.
