Biography: Mergers and Acquisitions

Pierre Magnan is a partner in Gowlings' Calgary office where he leads the corporate finance, securities and M&A practice group, and serves as a member of the firm's private equity and US initiative executives.

Pierre's practice focuses on in-bound investments into Canada, acquisitions and complex cross-border corporate and securities transactions. He helps clients achieve their business objectives by providing pragmatic advice on mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and private equity matters, including buyouts, going private, debt and equity financing, restructuring, reorganisation, joint venture, partnership and strategic investment transactions.

Pierre has extensive experience working in the energy, mining and technology industries representing public and private companies, state-owned enterprises, financial advisors, boards of directors, investment funds and private equity sponsors.

Pierre is a graduate of the University of Ottawa and Cambridge University, and is called to the New York State bar, the Law Society of England and Wales, the Law Society of Upper Canada and the Law Society of Alberta. He began his career with a Wall Street firm and taught the mergers and acquisitions course at the University of Calgary from 2002 to 2008. He is a member of the New York State Bar Association international section executive and the Canadian Bar Association Alberta (South) business law section executive.
