Biography: Mergers and Acquisitions

Claudia Pereira R is a partner at Mayora & Mayora, SC in Guatemala City, Guatemala, and also head of the firm's corporate and cross border transactions practice group. Mrs Pereira specialises in corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, cross-border transactions and project finance. She has been involved in many major domestic and international corporate mergers, acquisitions and corporate restructurings.

Mrs Pereira acts as corporate counsel in her country to various Guatemalan companies and to multinationals such as Chevron, Inc, Payless Shoe Source Ltd, Kraft Foods International, The Coca-Cola Company, among others. She acted as counsel of Union Fenosa in the privatisation process of the Guatemalan energy distribution companies DEOCSA and DEORSA, counsel for project financing and general loans for national and international clients, including secured transactions, counsel to Banco Industrial, SA in the securitisation of diversified payment rights, and most recently advised the sellers in the sale of Distribución Eléctrica CentroAmericana Dos (II), SA to Empresas Públicas de Medellín ESP.

Claudia Pereira has co-taught a corporations course in the LLM Master's programme at Universidad Francisco Marroquín and an introduction to law course at Universidad Rafael Landívar. She has participated in Guatemala and abroad in various panels related to her practice and she is a member of the American Chamber of Commerce in Guatemala, Association Henri Capitant des Amis de la Culture Juridique Française and Colegio de Abogados y Notarios de Guatemala.

Mrs Pereira is a graduate of Universidad Rafael Landívar, Guatemala (1996) completed an LLM at Georgetown University, Washington, DC (1997).
