Biography: Trademarks

Safir Anand studied at Delhi University (BA (Economics) 1992) at the Shriram College of Commerce and obtained his Law Degree from Delhi University in 1995. He is a member of the Bar Council of India, INTA, APAA, Asia-Pacific Lawyers Association, Centre for International Legal Studies, SAARCLAW, AIPPI, International Bar Association, Luxury Society, The Association of Media and Entertainment Counsel, and the International Franchising Association. His practice areas include trademarks, contractual law, franchising and licensing, character merchandising, advertising and labelling laws, IP audits, IP issues in mergers and acquisitions, and due diligence.

Mr Anand is senior partner and head of the trademarks, contractual and commercial IP entertainment and contractual IP. He advises several Fortune 500 companies and acts for over 6,000 clients.

Mr Anand has spoken extensively at various conferences including the Lexis Nexis conference on Importance of IP in Mergers and Acquisitions; the ACMA conference on IP Management Through Brand Protection and the Brand Licensing conference on Negotiating a License Agreement. The recent articles written by Mr Anand include 'Key Licensing Issues in India', published in IAM; 'Legal Issues in Advertising - Major implications for IP Rights', published in IAM; and 'Securing Intellectual Property During The Credit Crunch', published in Mondaq.
