Biography: Competition

Ricardo Oliveira is co-chair of the EU, competition and regulation practice area of PLMJ.

He is a graduate of the University of Lisbon Law School and holds an LLM in EU law from the College of Europe in Bruges.

Ricardo has been practising competition law for over 15 years, with a particular focus on defence in cartel matters, litigation, merger control and implementation of antitrust compliance programmes. His practice covers a wide range of industries, including food, pharmaceuticals, air transport, energy, financial services and media. Ricardo's regular clients include a number of international market leaders in those industries.

Ricardo's extensive experience of EU and competition affairs has also been built in public institutions. Before joining PLMJ, he worked at the chambers of the president of the EU General Court in Luxembourg and at the European Commission in Brussels.

Ricardo has published several articles on Portuguese competition law in specialised reviews. He regularly lectures in graduate and postgraduate competition law courses and is a frequent speaker at competition law conferences.

Ricardo is fluent in English, French and Spanish.
