Professor Swiatkowski combines his legal practice with activities at professional organisations. His memberships include being vice president of the European committee of social rights of the Council of Europe, a member of the International Society for Labour Law and Social Security (ISLLSS), International Industrial Relations Association (IIRA) and the Polish Association of European Law. In the years 2002-2005 he was a participant of the General Conference organised by the International Labour Organisation (ILO). He is an expert for the European Union Commission in the field of labour law.
Also, Professor Swiatkowski has been actively involved in academic work in Poland and abroad. Since 1988 he has been head of the chair of labour law and social policy of the Jagiellonian University and Jean Monnet Professor of European labour law and social security. He was a coordinator of the Tempus/Erasmus programme both at a national and international level in the field of European social security law.
Professor Swiatkowski read law and sociology at the Jagiellonian University, Cracow. He also received an LLM degree in labour law at the Ivy League University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia (1977).
