Biography: Construction

George Anthony (Tony) Smith is a senior partner in the construction disputes practice group at Weinberg, Wheeler, Hudgins, Gunn & Dial, and leads the firm's international construction arbitration team. Over a 38-year career he has served as an advocate or arbitrator in many large, complex, multi-party disputes throughout the United States and internationally, in (among others) the United Kingdom, the Middle East, Africa, South-East Asia and the Caribbean. From 2007 to 2009, Mr Smith travelled extensively to various locations in the UAE as the senior partner on a legal team charged with investigating, analysing and establishing an office in Dubai. He has since been engaged by various US design and construction firms in connection with disputes arising from high-profile projects in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and other GCC countries.

Mr Smith has authored dozens of articles on construction law and international arbitration, and is a contributing author in several construction and arbitration law textbooks. He has been widely recognised and honoured by his clients and peers as a top-tier construction lawyer, domestically and internationally. Chambers USA – America's Leading Lawyers for Business has written that 'Tony Smith is famed as 'an excellent trial lawyer'' and that he 'is renowned for his high-level expertise in construction and infrastructure disputes.'
