Biography: Construction

A senior partner at Borden Ladner Gervais, Simon Grégoire specialises in construction and engineering litigation, arbitration and alternative dispute resolution. A graduate of McGill University in Civil Law (BCL) and Common Law (LLB) in 1987, Simon also earned a Masters in International Business Transactions (LLM) from the University of London (LSE and UCL) in 1989. For over 20 years, Simon has been lead counsel in many significant matters, such as representing the contractor in the landmark case of Les Constructions du Saint-Laurent Ltée v Aluminerie Alouette Inc, the first large-scale lawsuit in Canada in which the documents were managed entirely in electronic format. Simon has also successfully represented contractors and owners in large infrastructure projects ranging from gas pipelines, hydroelectric dams and power stations, oil refineries and hospitals. He has also represented insurance companies involved in aeroplane repairs or in waste and hazardous materials spills.

Simon is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb). Fluent in English and French, Simon has authored several articles and spoken at numerous conferences on various aspects of construction law, commercial litigation, arbitration and the law of evidence. Peers have selected him for inclusion in the 2011 edition of The Best Lawyers in Canada (construction law) and for recognition in the 2010 Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory (construction law).
