Biography: Oil and Gas

Anar Baghirov is the managing partner of BHM Baku Law Centre, the largest law firm in Azerbaijan, with a subsidiary office in Kazakhstan and a joint venture operation with a leading Austrian law firm.

Anar's main practice areas are corporate, contract, banking and finance, tax and property law. Before joining BHM, Anar worked as a senior lawyer for a prominent oil and gas company. Anar is a leading litigation lawyer, representing many corporations including national energy providers, banks and large international organisations. He also acts for leading engineering and construction companies, for which recent work includes providing legal advice on the construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Jeyhan pipeline and the Construction of Concrete Highway Project in Kazakhstan.

Anar also provides legal expertise to the GTZ Project: Support of Legal and Judicial Reforms in Azerbaijan, as well as on a variety of projects for the Council of Europe and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe.

He is a member of the Azerbaijan Bar Association and the International Bar Association and has been awarded with the Certificate of Honour by the ABA. He is a co-founder and member of the Azerbaijan Lawyers Confederation and is on the editorial board of the Southern Caucasus Law Journal and the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences periodical, Problems of State Building and Law Making in Azerbaijan.

Anar graduated from Baku State University in 1997 and earned his PhD in law in 2006. He speaks Azerbaijani, Russian, Turkish and English.
