Ms Necheles represents individuals in all types of criminal and regulatory investigations, including securities fraud, accounting fraud, health care fraud, insider trading, bank fraud, perjury, obstruction of justice, and a myriad of other white-collar offenses. She frequently persuades the government not to bring charges against her clients.
Ms Necheles has successfully defended at trial dozens of cases. She obtained the acquittal of a defendant in an internet sting case in federal court, the acquittal of a defendant charged with committing perjury in state court, the acquittal on all securities fraud charges for a president of a brokerage company charged with securities fraud and commercial bribery in federal court, the acquittal of a New York State senator charged with health care fraud and obtaining illegal contributions in state court, and the acquittal after trial in Puerto Rico of a businessman charged with illegal campaign contributions to a United States senator in federal court.
Ms Necheles also obtains favourable dispositions for her clients without trial. She and other attorneys obtained a landmark decision dismissing the charges against defendants who were charged with the largest tax fraud in United States in connection with the sale of tax shelters through KPMG. In another case, Ms Necheles convinced federal prosecutors in the Eastern District of New York that they had indicted an innocent man, based on perjured testimony of a cooperating witness. All charges against her client, who was charged with money laundering and mail fraud and faced 10 years in jail, were dismissed.
Ms Necheles graduated from Yale Law School in 1983, where she was an editor of the Yale Law Journal. Ms Necheles has annually been among the 5 per cent of lawyers chosen as one of the top White Collar Criminal Defense Attorneys in New York City by New York Super Lawyers. In 2011 she was featured in The Champion, a national magazine for criminal defence attorneys, in an article that sought to educate other defence attorneys about some of the trial techniques successfully used by Ms Necheles in obtaining an acquittal in federal court in an internet entrapment case. Ms Necheles was elected to and served on the board of New York Council of Defense Lawyers. She was a founder and head of the New York Women's Criminal Defense Group. She was a Master in the Federal Bar Council's Inn of Court and is a member of the Federal Bar Counsel, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the Association of the Bar of the City of New York.
