Biography: Banking

Yuto Matsumura is a partner of Mori Hamada & Matsumoto. His practice focuses on banking, mergers and acquisitions, corporate and securities laws, private equity, and international dispute resolution. In particular, he has extensive experience in M&A involving banks and other financial institutions, and publicly listed companies, especially in the cross-border context. He has advised clients in conducting tender offers in the USA, China, Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore and other countries, working closely with leading law firms in each jurisdiction, and acted as lead counsel in many other Japanese outbound deals involving investments into more than 10 different jurisdictions. He has also advised on tender offers and other types of acquisitions of Japanese companies by various international entities.

He has consistently been selected as a leading lawyer in Japan for banking in The International Who's Who of Banking Lawyers and Asialaw Leading Lawyer; for corporate/M&A in Chambers Global, Chambers Asia, PLC Which Lawyer?, IFLR1000 and Asialaw Profiles; and for dispute resolution in Asialaw Leading Lawyer. He has assumed a leading role in a number of deals that were selected as Japan Deal of the Year. He is an active member of the International Bar Association (IBA), Inter-Pacific Bar Association (IPBA) and LAWASIA.

Mr Matsumura is a graduate of The University of Tokyo (LLB, 1996) and Columbia Law School (LLM, 2002). He has worked for Sullivan & Cromwell (from 2002 to 2003) and is admitted to practice in both Japan and New York. He joined Mori Hamada & Matsumoto in April 1998, and has been a partner since January 2005. He is fluent in Japanese, English and French.
