Biography: Corporate Governance
Gareth Driver has been a director of Werksmans Attorneys since 1997 and currently heads the firm's commercial department.Under his leadership Werksmans' corporate and mergers and acquisitions (M&A) practice has consistently been acknowledged as a leader in South Africa by a number of credible ranking organisations including Dealmakers, Mergermarket and Ernst & Young.
Gareth specialises in corporate law and commercial transactions, predominantly M&A. He has advised on a wide range of deals including black economic empowerment and international transactions. Although he has had exposure to a variety of market sectors, Gareth has in-depth experience of the financial services and mining sectors.
Gareth's expertise extends to financial services regulation, corporate finance and structuring, private equity, leveraged and management buy-outs, securities law, listings/flotations, public offerings and private placements, exchange control and corporate governance.
He is frequently recognised in international ratings as one of South Africa's foremost M&A lawyers and has been named as a leading lawyer in antitrust, corporate and M&A by Best Lawyers International; in corporate/M&A by Chambers Global: The World's Leading Lawyers for Business; in M&A by IFLR1000: The Guide to the World's Leading Financial Law Firms; in private equity: buyouts by PLC Which Lawyer; and in M&A and corporate governance by Who's Who Legal.
