Biography: Trademarks

Born in Veracruz, Mexico Manuel M Soto is an attorney specialised in the field of intellectual property. In 1970, received his Law Degree by the Law School (Facultad de Derecho) of the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM), Mexico City. He is the author of Dotación de Ejidos en Materia Agraria (Agrarian Communal Land Allocation), Mexico, 1971. Manuel M Soto also attended Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa where received a degree in Business Administration in 1970.

He is an active member of national and international organisations such as the Mexican Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AMPPI), Mexican Bar Association, International Trademark Association (INTA); the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI), the Interamerican Association of Intellectual Property (ASIPI) and the National Association of Corporate Lawyers (ANADE). He is the former president of the Mexican Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AMPPI) in Mexico.

He has attended several congresses and conferences in the intellectual property field and represented several cases in trademarks on behalf of American and European companies. He is fluent in English.

He began his practice in Uhthoff, Gomez Vega & Uhthoff, SC as a law clerk in 1970 and became a partner in 1981. Currently, he is senior partner in charge of the trademarks department at Uhthoff, Gomez Vega & Uhthoff, SC, one of the oldest and leading intellectual property and corporate law firms in Mexico.
